Twitch goes into detail on their reasoning in their blog post.

A Letter from Twitch President Dan Clancy on Subscription Revenue Shares” was published as a Twitch blog post on September 21st, 2022.

The President explains that the 50/50 symbolizes “we’re in this together” and also details why the 70/30 for premium partners would be changing moving forward as well.

The article goes on to cite the other revenue types besides the regular subscriptions: Prime Subs, Community Gifting, Hype Train, and the Ads Incentive Program which have driven an increase of 27% more streamer revenue per viewer hour.

They explained as well the cost on their end: “live video costs for a 100 CCU streamer who streams 200 hours a month are more than $1000 per month”

The Twitch Uservoice Request by SaltyWyvern about increasing the split for all received over 22K+ votes.

We have started seeing a lower payout threshold of $50 to different regions since this post. The image is taken from Twitch Uservoice.

Time will tell if they will reconsider the split moving forward.
